a creative and new way to make salad

I'm in the market for a shredder. There are many models at various prices. My need is for occasional use at home with papers, and maybe for credit cards and CD's. Because of wanting to use it for CD's, does it have to be a more powerful and expensive model? I notice they don't specify the motor power ratings on the schredders, only the number of sheets at a time. Does anybody have experience as to which brands are the best buys for the money?

Today, I was helping my dad shred some papers. The shredder stopped working and it started to smell burnt. It's probably the motor inside that smells. I can't shred anymore. When we plug it in, it'll just heat up quickly and won't shred. How can I fix this?
