The GBC ShredMaster 2260X shredder is perfect for heavy-duty use either by an individual or amongst several colleagues in an office setting. This shredder can shred 10 sheets of paper per pass and it uses a cross-cut pattern that gives you a medium level of security, so it's good for destroying personal information. (The shreds the machine produces measure 5/32" x 1 3/8".) The 2260X can handle paper clips and staples, plus it can destroy credit cards and DVD's/CD's. There's a separate slot for the discs and the throat that the paper is fed into measures 9.25 inches so it's great to shredding both letter- and legal-sized paper.

The shredder has two waste chambers to keep the paper and media waste separate to allow for easy recycling. The paper bin has a 13-gallon capacity so you won't have to empty it very often, which will save you time. The machine also has a continuous duty motor so you can shred non-stop without needing to worry about the motor overheating or going into a thermal protection mode. Many other comparable shredders do not offer continuous duty motors and require a break after a certain number of minutes shredding.

The 2260X has some other great features. It has a patented SmartShred multi-function control panel that allows you to see if there are any problems with the machine, such as a full wastebasket, a paper jam, or if the unit is overloaded. The shredder is even equipped with castors so you can move it around easily. Finally, the shredder has an auto stop feature as well as an anti-jam mode which will reduce the likelihood if you experiencing a paper jam.

For the most part, the 2260X is a great paper shredder, but it does have a few quirks. This is a rather big machine so it's not really a good choice if you want a shredder that can be stored under a desk. Also, it would have been nice if GBC had given the machine a higher shredding capacity. Ten sheets isn't a whole lot, especially since this shredder was designed for continuous use.

All in all, the GBC ShredMaster 2260X cross-cut paper shredder is a pretty good machine for the money. (It retails for approximately $500.00.) Despite it's rather low shredding capacity, this machine would be a good choice for individuals or companies that need a reliable, continuous-duty shredder for destroying both paper and electronic media such as DVD's. Having the capability to destroy media is a great feature to have in a paper shredder, and it's great that GBC gave this shredder two waste chambers to keep the different types of waste separate. Overall, this is a good paper shredder that offers a decent amount of security. People who need a continuous-duty, cross-cut paper shredder should definitely give the 2260X a look.

If you're looking for a high-quality, medium-duty, deskside paper shredder that offers a high level of security, you needn't look any further than the Fellowes Microshred MS-450Cs. This is a top-notch product from Fellowes that combines great safety features and thoughtful little touches with what's really important: document security. For a relatively low price (under $300.00), Fellowes' MS-450Cs provides an extremely high level of security and it not only can destroy paper, it can decimate other types of media quickly and quietly, making this shredder a great choice for both the home and office.

One of the first things that's noticeable about the MS-450Cs is how quiet it is. Indeed, it's so quiet you can barely hear it working at all, so this shredder would be great for a shared workspace or reception area. The shredder is also very safe to use, so it'd be a welcome addition to homes containing young children and/or pets. Fellowes has given the machine with its patented SafeSense technology which causes the shredder to immediately shut off if it detects hands - or anything other than paper - anywhere near the opening, so you and your loved ones will be safe. (The machine also stops when a jam occurs, thus preventing damage to the machine.) Other features include casters for easy transport, a generous wastebasket capacity of 4.5 gallons, and an additional chamber for media waste. Also, the basket area has a shelf for easy storage of shredder oil and wastebasket bags.

The noise and safety factors are great features to have, but what's truly amazing about the MS-450Cs is its shredding capability. This is a cross-cut machine that can shred just about anything you put into it including paper, CDs, DVDs, and credit cards. (Staples can be put in, too.) This paper shredder can shred up to seven sheets of paper at a time (less if you're shredding non-paper materials) and it can run continuously for 8 to 10 minutes. And best of all, the MC-450Cs pulverizes paper, producing very small paper particles. Identity thieves don't have a chance of stealing any information from documents that are passed through this machine, so the MS-450Cs is the perfect choice if you're concerned about identity theft.

That said, the MS-450Cs' main strength is also its drawback, in a way. The shreds this machine produces are so fine, it's very easy to make a big mess with them. Be sure to be careful when changing or emptying the wastebasket, unless you want to be vacuuming up paper shreds. (And really, who wants to do that?) Also, some users may want to shred more than seven pages at a time. If that's the case, a different shredder would be a wise choice. Offices that are looking for a shredder to share among a number of users may find that the MS-450Cs is a little bit small for that application. A shredder with a larger bin, larger sheet capacity and wider throat may be nice for sharing in a workgroup or department.

The GBC Shredmaster SC032 strip cut paper shredder is a small personal use shredding machine designed to sit beside or underneath your desk.
The SC32 includes a small personal strip cut shredding machine and a four gallon wastebasket that is specifically designed for use with the SC032.
This small paper shredder is small enough that it can sit in your office so that shredding is always within reach making it convenient to destroy sensitive information rather than simply throwing it in the trash.

Strengths / Features:

The GBC SC-032 is actually very small. It comes with a small four gallon basket that will conveniently fit almost anywhere. Or if you want, you can remove the shredding head from the top of the basket and you can place it on your existing round or rectangular trash can with an opening between 12" and 14.25" wide.
The SC-032 can strip cut up to six sheets of paper at a time without the need to remove staples or paper clips before shredding. This is ideal for dealing with junk mail and credit card applications that come in the mail. It is also an excellent option for office use in destroying documents with sensitive customer information or financial data that should not be thrown in the trash.
The SC-032 cuts documents into strips that are 9/32" (7mm) wide. It can be set to shred automatically when paper is inserted into the throat. It can also be turned on manually or set to reverse mode in order to help deal with paper jams.

Weaknesses / Limitations:

The throat on the SC-032 is only 8-5/8" wide. It is designed for shredding letter sized sheets that are fed with the short end first. However, with such a small throat, sheets that are fed crooked can easily become jammed in the shredder. Using the SC032 it is important to feed sheets squarely into the shredder in order to prevent paper jams.
The Shredmaster SC-032 is designed for shredding small volumes of paper in a small office or personal setting. It is designed for shredding up to 250 sheets per day. However, if you attempt to shred continuously for more than two minutes, the shredder may turn itself off to protect the motor. The shredder will need to sit for approximately thirty minutes if this occurs. This means that the SC32 is not ideal for any applications where volume shredding may be required.
The SC-032 shreds at a speed of approximately ten feet per minute. As far as shredders go, this is actually quite slow. This means that the shredder can handle a single sheet of paper in approximately six seconds. For users who need to shred a few sheets per day this should be adequate. However, it is very slow if you need to shred a stack of paper.

Recommendation:

The SC-032 is ideal for users who want to place a small shredder under or beside their desk. It is small enough that it won't get in the way and is more than adequate for allowing users to shred a few documents without ever needing to leave their desks.
However, the SC32 is not ideal for any type of volume shredding and is not a good solution for anyone who needs to shred more than a few sheets of paper at a time.
The limited width of the throat on the SC-32 and limited shredding capacity that it offers makes should be noted before choosing this shredder.
Still, the GBC Shredmaster SC-032 comes with an excellent 2 year warranty on the entire unit and comes with a 5 year warranty on the cutting heads.

Overview:The GBC Shredmaster SC 60 paper shredder is designed to sit on top of your existing wastebasket or trash receptacle. It is a strip cut shredder that is designed for moderate home office and small office shredding. It allows you to place a shredder beside or under your desk so that you can destroy important documents instead of throwing them in the trash. The Shredmaster SC 060 is a larger version of the SC 030 shredder. It is built for larger sized waste baskets and shreds more sheets at one time.

Strengths / Features:The GBC Shredmaster SC-060 is capable of shredding up to 9 sheets of paper at a time without the need to remove staples or paperclips. It is an ideal solution for personal shredding of documents at your desk or for home use in shredding credit card applications, junk mail and private documents. The Shredmaster SC-060 is designed to fit on rectangular waste baskets that are between 13" and 16" wide and thus will fit on most standard office trash cans. Once placed on most wastebaskets it is still possible to throw out normal garbage without removing the SC-60. The Shredmaster SC-060 has three settings. You can set it to shred your documents automatically when you insert them into the throat. You can turn the shredder on manually into the forward position so that it will shred small sheets or to help remove paper jams. You can also set the shredder to reverse in order to remove paper jams that might occur if you attempt to shred too many documents at one time.

The SC-60 opperates at a speed of 15 feet per minute which means that it will take approximately 4 seconds to shred one letter sized document. It comes with an excellent warranty covering the entire shredder and motor for two years and the cutting blades for five years. Plus, GBC is one of the easiest companies to deal with if you have any problems. In most cases they will simply replace the machine for you.

Weaknesses / Limitations:The SC60 Shredmaster Shredder is designed for shredding moderate amounts of paper. Although it is technically rated for shredding up to 500 sheets of paper per day, it can not shred continuously for more than about 2 minutes. If you shred continuously for longer than this the motor will overheat and the shredder will turn itself off. If this happens, the SC-60 requires a cool down period of approximately 30 minutes before it can be used again. The SC-60 is a strip cut shredder that cuts your documents into strips that are 1/4" (6mm) wide. Although a strip cut shredder is secure enough for most personal and small office applications, it does produce more waste than a cross cut shredder. With the SC-60 it is possible to quickly fill up a standard size wastebasket with shredded material. The SC-60 has a 9" wide opening for shredding documents. This is designed for shredding letter sized documents that are fed into the shredder with the 8. 5" end first. This isn't a huge issue. However, it does prevent you from shredding larger format documents and slows down the shredding process considerably over a shredder with a throat that is 11" or wider.

Recommendation:The SC-060 is a great shredder for individuals looking to put a shredder on the top of their existing waste basket. It allows you to shred your documents without loosing the ability to use your trash can for other items and helps to make shredding easy and convenient. However, the SC-60 is not a high volume shredder and is not a good fit for applications where more than a few sheets will need to be shredded at any given time. Users who attempt to use the SC-60 to shred even moderate volumes of paper at one time will most likely find that the shredder will shut itself off leaving everyone frustrated.

Overview: Comparable to most small shredders, the Fellowes Powershred P-58CS offers a more economical solution with many of the same features of more expensive shredders. Provides a compact and light, yet decent volume sized shredder suitable for most home or small office duties. The Powershred P58CS is manufactured by Fellowes who is one of the most well known and respected producers of home and office paper shredders on the market. Features/ Strengths: The Fellowes Powershred P-58CS is a light-use desk side cross cut paper shredder that can easily fit compactly in any home or office. This shredder is small enough to easily fit under or on your desk for easy accessibility. This shredder features SafeSense Technology, which immediately shuts the motor down when hands or body parts get too close to the shredder throat. This allows for increased safety in homes with young children or pets. The P-58CS provides a great inexpensive alternative for a home or small office that only needs to shred a few documents on a regular basis. This shredder offers a price point under a hundred dollars and provides great value for your money. Featuring auto start/stop technology, the P-58CS ensures smooth and efficient shredder operation. This means that you don't need to worry about turning the shredder on and off between documents. It will automatically sense the paper when you insert it into the throat. Limitations/ Weaknesses: This Shredder claims that it can shred up to 9 sheets of paper at a time. However, when we attempted to shred 9 sheets of paper the P58CS struggled with the capacity. It also took about twenty seconds to fully shred the lot of paper fed through it. This machine is intended for light home and small office shredding, the P-58CS shredder will struggle shredding multiple sheets of thicker paper or multiple pieces of mail. Though capable of shredding credit cards, it is not recommended to do so on a regular basis. The machine should not be used to shred more than one or two credit cards at a time as the motor struggles with the weight of the cards. Although the P58-CS is a cross cut shredder and is more secure than a comparable strip cut model, organizations with highly sensitive information may want to consider upgrading to a micro cut paper shredder to increase security. This machine is not designed for continuous shredding. After a few minutes of shredding the motor will actually turn off so that the shredder can cool down. It is primarily meant to shred a few documents or pieces of mail per day as they arrive or are produced. Users who need to do larger volumes of shredding will probably want to consider a larger shredder with a constant duty motor. Recommendation: The Fellowes Powershred P-58CS Shredder should really only be used in either small offices or homes that plan on shredding only a few papers regularly. This shredder is in no means a heavy use shredder, and should be treated as such. Though the P-58CS struggles with multiple sheets of 24lb and thicker papers at any time, it will quickly and efficiently shred through 2-5 pages at a time of standard copy paper. For the price, this shredder will provide a decent option for light home or small office use; however, for a slight increase in price the new GBC Shredmaster GEX106 may provide a quieter, higher-capacity shredder for your needs.

The SC-030 is a strip cut paper shredder that is designed to shred up to six sheets of 20lb paper at a time. It easily fits on top of your circular or rectangular trash can while leaving room for you to still use the can for regular garbage. This review will take a quick look at the strengths, features, weaknesses and limitations of the SC30 paper cutter.

Strengths / Features:The Shredmaster SC 30 is designed to fit on almost any wastebasket or trash receptacle in an office environment. It includes a small section that can be adjusted for baskets as small as 11" across and as wide as 14. 5" across. No wastebasket is included with the SC-030 since it is designed to fit on top of the wastebasket that you already own. The Shredmaster SC-30 can handle up to 6 sheets of paper at a time. It also includes heavy duty steel cutting blades that are capable of handling documents with paper clips or staples. It includes a feature that turns the shredder on automatically when paper is inserted in the throat. Or you can select the forward setting to turn the paper shredder on manually or the reverse setting to help remove paper jams. The Shredmaster SC-030 cuts documents into strips that are 9/32" (7mm) wide.

Weaknesses / Limitations:The Shredmaster SC030 is designed for small volume shredding applications in an office or personal setting. If you attempt to shred documents continuously for more than 2 minutes you will most likely find that the shredder will turn off and require up to 30 minutes to cool down. The SC 30 only has an 8-3/4" wide throat. This is designed for shredding documents that are letter sized by feeding them into the shredder with the short end first. However, the small throat size of this shredder greatly reduces productivity and limits its ability to handle larger format documents. Although some users prefer a strip cut shredder, the SC-030 is less secure than a cross cut model and can quickly fill a small wastebasket with shredded paper.

Recommendation:The Shredmaster SC-030 is ideal for users who are looking for a small reliable shredder to set on top of their wastebasket so that they can shred a few pages at a time without having to leave their desk. The SC-30 is not ideal for any type of volume shredding application and can quickly overheat if you attempt to shred paper continuously. It will also jam if you attempt to shred more than six sheets at a time. Still, it is a great economical paper shredding solution that comes with the strength of the GBC Shredmaster brand and carries a 2 year warranty on the motor and a 5 year warranty on the cutting heads.
